EXO QAL
Optical Wet Gas Extractive Dust Monitor
Reliable continuous dust measurement in wet and challenging industrial applications.
Sintrol EXO QAL is an extractive dust monitoring system designed for wet, condensing and demanding industrial process conditions. By extracting and conditioning the gas sample before optical measurement, it enables reliable particulate monitoring where conventional in-situ monitors fail.
Reliable Dust Measurement in Wet and Condensing Gas Streams
Moisture, liquid droplets and material build-up can interfere with conventional dust measurement and increase maintenance needs in wet industrial processes.
EXO QAL addresses these challenges by extracting a representative gas sample and heating it above the water and acid dew points before optical measurement. This removes moisture interference and helps prevent condensation within the sampling system.
The system combines ejector-based sampling, controlled sample conditioning and precise optical measurement to deliver reliable measurement data and maintain long-term performance in demanding process conditions.

In-situ dust monitors do not work in wet stacks. Without representative sampling, effective gas conditioning and high-precision measurement, dust monitoring will fail.
The Essentials for Reliable Wet Gas Dust Measurement
Representative sample extraction
Ejector-based sampling and automatic probe cleaning support stable and representative sample extraction in demanding process conditions.
Controlled sample conditioning
Heating the sample above the water and acid dew points vaporises liquid droplets, removes moisture interference and helps prevent condensation before optical measurement.
Precise optical measurement
Wideband white LED technology and a patented protective air curtain support reliable measurement without dilution air. The protective air curtain helps keep optical surfaces clean, reducing maintenance needs and supporting long-term measurement stability.
Unlike conventional in-situ monitors, EXO QAL extracts and conditions the gas sample before measurement, removing the influence of moisture and liquid droplets. The result: reliable dust measurement in wet and condensing process conditions.
How EXO QAL Works

Sample extraction
An ejector-based system continuously extracts gas from the process through a heated sampling probe.
Sample conditioning
The sample is heated above the water and acid dew points to vaporise liquid droplets and help prevent condensation.
Optical measurement
The conditioned sample passes through an optical measurement cell, where particulate matter concentration is continuously measured.
Sample discharge
After measurement, the sample can be returned to the process or discharged to ambient air, depending on the installation configuration.
Typical Applications
EXO QAL is designed for particulate monitoring in wet and condensing industrial gas streams, particularly downstream of wet scrubbers, wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs) and other gas-cleaning or cooling systems.
- Biomass Combustion
- Waste-to-Energy and Waste Incineration
- Coal-Fired Power Plants
- Chemical Processing and Acid Production
- Petroleum Refining
- Metals Processing and Foundries

- Odour Control and Air Treatment Systems
Flexible Installation and Easy Maintenance
EXO QAL is designed for both new installations and retrofit projects. Its adjustable support frame and multiflange process connection help simplify installation in existing industrial plants.
Automatic probe backpurging, accessible service components and integrated diagnostics support low-maintenance operation. The touchscreen provides local access to measurement values, trends, alarms and diagnostics, while Ethernet TCP/IP enables remote operation and troubleshooting.
Optional accessories are available for outdoor installations, cold environments and secure remote access (see product brochure).
