S314 / S314 Ex
Split Architecture Dust Monitor
Reliable continuous dust monitoring for demanding and hazardous process environments.
Sintrol S314 and S314 Ex are continuous dust monitors designed for industrial applications where the measurement point is difficult to access or located in demanding process conditions.
Their split architecture separates the Dust Sensor Unit (DSU) from the Connection Unit (CU), allowing the sensor to be installed directly at the measurement point while the electronics remain in a safe and easily accessible location.
The S314 Ex is designed for hazardous environments where explosive gas or dust atmospheres may be present, while the S314 is intended for non-hazardous installations.

Flexible Dust Monitoring for Difficult-to-Access Locations
By separating the Dust Sensor Unit from the Connection Unit, the S314 and S314 Ex provide flexible installation for demanding industrial environments.
The Dust Sensor Unit can be mounted directly at the measurement point, while the Connection Unit can be installed at ground level or in another easily accessible area.
Easier access
With the main electronics installed in a safe and accessible area, routine inspections and maintenance can be carried out quickly and efficiently.
Safer maintenance
Routine maintenance can be performed from an easily accessible location, reducing the need to access elevated or difficult-to-reach measurement points. This can also reduce the need for scaffolding, lifting equipment and additional access permits.
Better visibility
Measurement values and device health status can be viewed from a convenient location without accessing the measurement point.
Continuous Insight into Process Conditions
Real-time dust concentration monitoring
Continuous measurements provide visibility into dust levels and process conditions, helping operators monitor trends, identify deviations and verify the effectiveness of process adjustments.
Early detection of process problems
Changes in dust levels help identify leaking filter media, malfunctioning cleaning systems and changes in cyclone, separator or filtration performance at an early stage.
Process optimization and improved efficiency
Continuous dust measurements supports process optimization, improves product recovery and helps maintain stable operating conditions. Real-time feedback also helps identify opportunities for process improvements and energy savings.
Reduced downtime and maintenance costs
Early warning of abnormal conditions supports proactive maintenance planning and helps reduce unplanned shutdowns, troubleshooting time and maintenance costs.
Improved product quality and yield
Maintaining consistent process conditions and detecting performance changes early helps reduce product loss and supports more predictable product quality.
Emissions monitoring and environmental compliance
Continuous particulate monitoring helps identify abnormal emission events as they occur. Real-time data supports environmental reporting, helps demonstrate compliance with permit requirements and enables rapid response to process or filtration problems.

S314 or S314 Ex?
S314
The S314 is designed for non-hazardous locations where split architecture provides an advantage for installation, maintenance and daily operation.
Keeping the electronics in a safe and easily accessible location improves personnel safety while reducing maintenance effort and costs.
S314 Ex
The S314 Ex is designed for continuous dust monitoring in hazardous process environments where explosive gas or dust atmospheres may be present.
It is certified for applications involving flammable gases, vapours and mists as well as combustible dusts. The Dust Sensor Unit can be installed in the hazardous area, while the Connection Unit is located in a safe area.
The S314 Ex Dust Sensor Unit is certified for Zone 0, 1 and 2 gas atmospheres and Zone 20, 21 and 22 dust atmospheres.
If split architecture is not required and the measurement point is in a non-hazardous area, a standard Sintrol general-purpose dust monitor may provide a more cost-effective solution.
Typical industries
S314 and S314 Ex are suitable for dust monitoring in applications including:
- Food and grain processing
- Agricultural and ethanol processes
- Cement industry
